- Then log in. Tick Stay logged in to stay signed in on your device.
2. Your Device Token
- Log in and open your account / profile.
- Copy the Device Token shown there and paste it into the watch app settings.
- The token links your sessions to your account – it's the only thing each rider must set.
3. Install & set up the watch app
- On your Garmin watch, install WaterSession from the Connect IQ Store.
- In Garmin Connect (phone) → Devices → your watch → Connect IQ Apps → WaterSession → Settings.
- Paste your Device Token (required). Leave Spot empty to detect it automatically by GPS.
- Sync the watch.
4. The 8 watch screens
While recording, switch screens with UP/DOWN:
- Speed – current speed big (knots + km/h), plus your max and time.
- Jumps (wind sports & wakeboard) / Paddle (SUP) – count and the latest value.
- Totals – distance, average, 2 s peak.
- km/h only – just the current speed in km/h (large) + max.
- knots only – just the current speed in knots (large) + max.
- Distance – total session distance, large.
- Jump height (wind & wakeboard) / Cadence (SUP) – height of the last jump in m / strokes per minute.
- Airtime (wind & wakeboard) / Strokes (SUP) – airtime of the last jump in s / total strokes.
The top of the screen shows REC (recording) or READY.
5. Sending your session
- Finish with START → choose Send (or Keep recording / Discard).
- A phone with Garmin Connect must be nearby – the watch uploads through it.
- The status shows
sent(success),retry …orerr …. - No phone at the beach? It retries automatically; you can also use Resend last later.
6. Sports & the home rankings
- Switch sport at the top: Windsurf · Kitesurf · Wingsurf · SUP · Wakeboard.
- The home page shows the Top 15 per category: Best 30 s, Top speed 2 s, Longest run and Total distance (one best session per rider).
- Wind sports & wakeboard also have Best airtime & Highest jump; SUP has Most strokes & Max cadence.
- Each row shows the weather of that session and a trust badge.
7. Filters & your saved start
- Open Filter in the sidebar: Group, Location (spot), Year, Month, Day and gear type.
- Advanced filters: max front wing (foil), max fin size and a weight range (compare similar riders).
- Save your selection as My start – it is preselected every time you open the app.
8. My Results – records, index & your rank
- Your records: top 2 s, top 30 s, longest run, highest jump and total distance.
- Performance Index = top 2 s ÷ (wind × sail size) × 100 – higher means you were fast with little wind and a small sail (a fair efficiency score for tracking progress).
- Your ranking position: your rank overall, or pick a spot in the filter to see your rank at that spot (for 2 s and 30 s).
9. My Results – personal bests, sessions & analysis
- Personal bests: your top-10 speed table, filterable by spot, year, board and max wind (e.g. how fast at ≤ 5 Bft?).
- View my sessions: list with a date filter; pick one to see the full analysis.
- Session detail: distance, average, peak speeds, jumps/paddling, detected runs, the GPS map, weather and trust.
- Complete my sessions: set spot / board / sail on watch sessions so they count in the ranking.
10. Spots & weather forecast
- The Spots tab: filter by country + spot for a description, photo gallery, webcam and live weather.
- 3-day forecast with a “worth it” traffic light (green/amber/red) from wind strength & the spot's best wind directions.
- Open a day for the hourly view (wind bars + frosted gust bars); toggle the thermal / sea-breeze potential.
- Upload your own spot photo – the newest 5 are shown with the uploader's name.
👉 Browse the public spot guide & live rankings – a free page for every spot, with the top riders and conditions.
11. Spot-TV – the café / shop screen
- A full-screen live board for a café, shop or club. Open it from the Filter panel: pick a spot → Open Spot TV (then press F11 for full screen).
- Shows a leaderboard with medals and percentage bars (rank 1 = 100 %), the rider of the day, the current weather and the 3-day forecast.
- A QR code lets visitors join today's ranking, plus an optional sponsor logo & product deals.
12. Groups & community
- Create or join groups to compare within your crew; filter the rankings by group.
- Private groups need the owner's approval; the owner can invite/approve members.
- A news banner shows members' new records and top-3 results.
13. Share equipment
- Use the same boards/sails as family or friends? Share your equipment via a short code.
- Enter a mate's code under Import equipment to copy their gear list – no retyping.
14. Other watches / Apple Watch
- Any watch that exports a FIT file (e.g. Apple Watch via HealthFit) works too.
- Use Add session in the sidebar → choose equipment → upload the FIT file. Weather is added automatically; you get runs, map and the speed analysis.
COROS watches
You can use MyWaterSessions with COROS today, and automatic sync is on the way.
- Now (FIT upload): in the COROS app open the session → top-right menu → Export Data → .FIT, then upload it under Add session – you get runs, the GPS map and the full speed analysis, just like a Garmin session.
- Direct COROS sync (coming soon): we're building automatic sync – link your COROS account once and new sessions land in your ranking on their own, no manual upload.
15. Trust, fair play & privacy
- Every session gets a trust score from GPS physics: max acceleration, course change at speed, GPS noise, point density and a comparison with the spot best.
- Watch sessions also get an on-water check and a device-verified baseline. Please keep it fair – obvious outliers lose trust.
- Privacy: your GPS track is stored but shown only to you. The ranking shows name, spot, speed, equipment and weather. You can delete your data or account anytime.
16. Frequently asked questions
Which sports does MyWaterSessions support?
Five: windsurfing, kitesurfing, wingfoiling, SUP and wakeboarding. Switch sport at the top of the app – each has its own rankings and records.
Is MyWaterSessions free?
Yes. Creating an account, recording sessions, the rankings, the spot guide and the wind forecast are all free.
Which Garmin watches are supported?
The WaterSession Connect IQ app runs on around 40 Garmin watches – Fenix, Epix, Forerunner, Instinct, Venu, vívoactive and more. Install it from the Connect IQ Store and paste your Device Token.
How is my speed measured?
From GPS. The ranking uses your best 2-second peak and your best 30-second average, so a single GPS spike can't fake a top speed. Every session also gets a trust score.
Can I use it without a Garmin watch (e.g. Apple Watch)?
Yes. Any watch that exports a FIT file works – upload it under Add session and you get the same speed analysis, runs and map.
Can I use it with COROS?
Yes. Today you can export a .FIT file from the COROS app and upload it under Add session – the same speed analysis, runs and map as any other watch. Automatic COROS sync, with no manual upload, is coming soon.
Does it track jumps and airtime for wakeboarding?
Yes. For wind sports and wakeboarding the watch detects each jump and shows jump height and airtime; SUP tracks strokes and cadence instead.
Is my GPS location private?
Your GPS track is stored but shown only to you. Others only see your name, spot, speed, equipment and the weather of the session.
