Beta 0.9.7
August 2026
🆕 New
- 🎯 Avg 5×10 and Alpha 500 – the two classic speedsurfing scores, each with its own ranking and counting towards records and personal bests. Avg 5×10 is the average of your five best 10-second runs that do not overlap in time: a 2-second peak can be a GPS glitch, five separate runs have to be sailed. Alpha 500 is the fastest 500 m whose start and finish lie less than 50 m apart, so a jibe has to be inside it – a straight downwind blast does not count. Both are computed from your GPS track on our side, so every watch gets them without an update. Alpha depends on how finely your watch records: on a heavily thinned track it stays empty.
- 🛰️ Satellite maps – track maps now open on aerial imagery, with a Map/Satellite switch top right and your choice remembered. On the water an aerial photo tells you far more than a street map: sandbanks, reefs, where the beach actually breaks.
- 📊 Your figures inside the map – the headline speed sits in the picture, the session's values run along the bottom edge, and a colour scale explains the speed-coloured track line.
- 🌍 Live page, no account needed – the latest sessions or the freshly broken spot records, with a map showing only the fastest stretch of a session, never the whole track. It is rendered on the server too, so search engines can read it.
- 🖼️ Drawn sport pictograms – every sport has its own icon: in the page header, on the sport switcher, in Spot-TV and across the sport landing pages and home pages.
- ⚖️ Sessions area in the backoffice – check a single session on a track map, release it or strike it, and cut a stretch out of it (the drive to the beach, a bridge crossing) while the original is kept and can be restored.
- ⏱️ Active time – the watch now measures the time you were actually moving, to the second, and the session overview shows it next to the recorded time.
- 🗺️ Three map modes in My Results – the whole track, only the fastest run, or only the longest run.
- 📷 Spot pages show the live webcam and the spot photo, for visitors without an account too.
✨ Improved
- Switch sport without leaving the page – Beat the Beach, Live and My Results each have their own sport selector, so you can compare sports on the page you are reading.
- Beat the Beach shows the gap to the next place, not only to the spot record – further down the field the rider one place up is the target you can actually reach.
- Fairer water check – it now looks for proof that you were on the water instead of counting how much of a track looks like land, and it samples the moving parts of a session. Sessions that start at the car (as Beat the Beach requires) are no longer punished for it.
- Speeds are shown with two decimals – measured as precisely as before, just easier to read.
- Weather can be fetched through the admin's browser when the weather service rate-limits our server, so missing weather can be filled in afterwards.
- Surf is now on the guide, about and watch pages in all five languages, and has its own landing page.
- The header row is one line of equal-height tiles instead of six tall buttons beside four flat ones.
🛠️ Fixed
- Sessions wrongly excluded by the water check can be re-checked – including the ones stuck at exactly trust 30, which the first version of the re-check could not find.
- Sessions whose watch sent no start position now take the position from the track, so they still get their weather and their spot.
- Two bugs behind “no weather data” on freshly uploaded sessions.
- Spot descriptions no longer carry copied header lines from their source.
- The map's zoom buttons sat on top of the main figure and hid its first digits.
- Clicking a sport from a subpage leads back to that sport's overview again.
Beta 0.9.6
August 2026
🆕 New
- 🎯 Beat the Beach – a page of its own for the record hunt: a ring showing how close you are to the spot record, your hunting list of all your spots sorted by where the least is missing, your progress at a spot over time against the record line, and what beating it would do to your rank. Without an account you still see the record and who holds it.
- 🏅 Every plausible session counts – a session enters the rankings and your personal bests as soon as it has a spot. You no longer have to fill in board and sail first, so watch uploads show up right away.
- ⌚ Your results on the watch after sending – the watch now cycles through the whole session: water time, distance, top 2 s and 30 s, best 500 m and nautical mile, longest run, jumps and airtime.
🛠️ Fixed
- Spot record and safety check-in now reach the server. Both requests from the watch were built with a wrong address and could never arrive – the spot-record ring stayed empty and the safety check-in never started its timer, even though uploads worked fine.
Beta 0.9.2
July 2026
🆕 New
- ⌚ Polar auto-import – connect your Polar account once and your Polar Flow sessions import automatically, just like Garmin (no file needed). Add spot, board & sail afterwards and they count in the ranking.
Beta 0.9.1
July 2026
🆕 New
- 🤙 Wakeboard rankings now show Best airtime & Highest jump – the speed/distance disciplines (30 s, 500 m, nautical mile) are hidden for wakeboard, where they don't matter.
- 🗺️ Interactive track map – your session track is now a real, pannable and zoomable map (OpenStreetMap) instead of a plain line.
- 🌍 Spot descriptions in your language – every spot can carry an English and a local-language description, switchable right above the text.
- 🔧 Fin advisor (windsurf) – a rule-of-thumb fin size from your board, sail & weight, picking from your own equipment.
- 🖥️ Spot-TV now shows the current sport and lets you switch sport right on the screen.
🛠️ Fixed
- Stability: fixed the rare server errors that could interrupt the app after an update. It also warms up automatically now, so it's fast right away instead of slow on the first visit.
- Clearer gybe analysis (proper formatting + an honest note when the GPS is too coarse for a detailed phase breakdown).
Beta 0.9
July 2026
📈 Session analysis (new)
- Speed over time – every session now has a speed curve reconstructed from your GPS track, with the planing threshold, your runs shaded (longest highlighted) and your real top speed (GPS spikes filtered out).
- Longest run – your longest continuous planing run is now recorded for watch sessions too (and we back-filled it for existing ones), so it counts in the rankings.
🔄 Gybe analysis (new)
- Your manoeuvres, analysed. We detect your gybes & tacks and mark them on the speed curve with a traffic-light for how much speed you kept.
- Pick a single gybe to break it into four phases – approach (−50 m), apex, rig-flip (+10 m) and exit (+50 m) – so you see exactly where a gybe drops off the plane.
- Something no big tracker shows: not just that you rode, but how well your manoeuvres run. With the watch app update the phases are computed on the watch second-by-second for exact values.
Beta 0.8.6
July 2026
🗺️ Fix a spot's suitability yourself
- Correct the “Who is this spot for?” rating – set a spot's level, good-to-learn, water type, wind, hazards and per-sport suitability directly in the backoffice, overriding the automatic AI rating. Mark a calm home lake as beginner-friendly / flat-water and it shows up under those filters right away.
- Cleaner spot descriptions – the automatic descriptions no longer mix in the AI's research notes; you just get the finished, readable text.
✨ Polish
- Spot rating category labels are now in English.
- The hourly forecast now explains when no sail size is shown (e.g. add your weight in your profile, or the day is simply too light to plane).
Beta 0.8.5
July 2026
🎽 Sail advisor (your own quiver)
- The right sail for every hour – the hourly forecast now recommends a sail from your own quiver, based on your weight, the wind and your standard board. Windy can't do this – it doesn't know your board or your sails. Set your weight + a standard board in your profile, and keep your sails in your equipment.
🌡️ Better hourly forecast
- Each hour now also shows the air temperature and a sky icon (sunny / cloudy / rain) next to wind, direction and gusts.
🏆 Rankings & speed
- Choose which ranking tables show by default (in the Filter) and load the rest on demand – a lighter, faster start page.
- Performance & stability improvements under the hood.
🗺️ Spots
- Spots you create now get an AI description automatically, and you can add a description + country right when creating a spot – so it shows up in the guide immediately.
Beta 0.8.4
July 2026
⭐ Rate the spots
- Star ratings per spot – rate conditions, infrastructure, ambience, beginner & advanced with a tap (stars only, no text). You see the community average and an overall score.
- Sort spots by best rating, see the score right in the spot picker, and the overall stars now show on Spot-TV too.
🛡️ Fairer rankings (anti-cheat)
- Clearly implausible sessions are now kept out of the rankings – impossible speeds/cadence, contradictory data, or tracks that weren't on the water. Honest sessions with noisy GPS stay; if one of yours is excluded, you see exactly why in “View my sessions”.
🆘 Safety check-in (optional)
- Set a personal safety timer and an emergency e-mail. If you don't check back in (your next upload clears it), your contact is notified. A convenience reminder – not a rescue service.
🗺️ Spots & media
- Any spot in the world: not just the ones listed – add yours in seconds by typing its name when you log a session (own page, gallery & weather).
- Create spots in the backoffice (name + coordinates), a webcam preview image that links to the live cam, larger spot photos and WebP uploads.
- A tidier, collapsible account area (less scrolling, especially on mobile).
Beta 0.8.3
July 2026
⌚ Garmin watch — much easier to get started
- No more token copying: the watch app now shows a short connect code. Just enter it once on mywatersessions.com (Account → ⌚ Connect watch) to link your sessions to your account. It records from the first minute — nothing gets lost.
- After every session a confirmation screen shows your upload and links straight to your ranking.
- New app icon and a clearer recording indicator so you can always tell a session is running.
🗺️ Spot guide — "Who is this spot for?"
- Spots now carry an orientation card: suitable level (beginner → pro), whether it's a good place to learn, water type (flat / chop / wave), typical wind and things to watch out for (offshore wind, current, rocks…), plus a per-sport matrix. Shown on the spot pages and in the app, with a clear safety disclaimer. It's guidance, not a guarantee.
- Filter the spot list by "beginner-friendly" and "flat water".
🏆 On the site
- Highest jump & airtime are now highlighted as ranking categories (wind sports & wakeboard).
- Time for the distance: the 500 m and nautical-mile rankings now also show the time you needed for that distance – in the tables and directly in the Spot-TV bar.
🆘 Safety check-in (new, optional)
- Set a personal safety timer and an emergency e-mail in your profile. When you start a session it can arm automatically; if you don't check back in (your next upload disarms it), your contact gets an e-mail. It's a convenience reminder, not a rescue service – no delivery guarantee, and it never replaces a buddy, leash or the coastguard.
📺 Spot-TV & performance
- Spot-TV now pre-scales to fit a TV (adjustable) and shows the photo gallery in a single tidy row on big screens. The app also got a general speed-up.
Beta 0.8.1
July 2026
📺 Spot-TV
- Rotating leaderboard: the ranking now cycles through 2 s → 30 s → 500 m → nautical mile every 30 seconds, so all disciplines get screen time. Spot description & weather keep their calmer 60-second rhythm.
- Editable "sponsored by" line above the sponsor logo and an editable heading over the product deals – set your own wording in the backoffice (or keep the defaults).
🗺️ Spot pages (search & AI)
- Each spot page now has an FAQ section built from real community data, plus "latest / first session" info – better visibility in Google and AI search (structured FAQ & location data).
⌚ Garmin watch app
- Offline upload queue: sessions recorded without a phone connection are now kept safely and uploaded later – multiple sessions no longer overwrite each other, and the resend status is clearly readable.
Beta 0.8
July 2026
📤 Upload & recording
- Upload without a Garmin watch: we now accept FIT, GPX and TCX files – from an Apple Watch (e.g. HealthFit), phone GPS apps, Suunto, COROS, or a Garmin Connect / Strava export. Speed, distance, GPS track and your 2 s / 30 s top speeds are computed automatically.
- New speed disciplines: Best 500 m and Best nautical mile rankings – on the website and on the watch.
- A short in-app guide shows exactly how to export your session from other apps.
⌚ Garmin watch app
- Redesigned training screens in the app's look: big current speed, live 2 s and session max.
- Configurable screens: show/hide pages and switch the big unit (km/h ↔ knots) right from the watch settings.
🗺️ Spots & Spot-TV
- Spot weather now shows wind, gusts & direction, temperature and sunset.
- Live webcams embed cleanly (YouTube & co.) and start automatically; plus a spot sponsor banner and a "Sponsored by" credit for local partners.
- Spot-TV (café / shop screen): record date & board tiles and an auto-refresh safeguard for always-on displays.
🛠️ Backoffice & ads
- Advertising can be split per sport per spot (e.g. different sponsors for kite vs. windsurf).
- Rotate gallery photos, a built-in contact / feedback form, and an improved product import that reads more shops' price & image.
🏆 Rankings, filters & personalisation
- Customisable ranking tables: show/hide and reorder the columns yourself (date, spot, board, sail, weather, trust – and the new fin details). Rank, name and the speed value stay fixed. Save it to your start.
- Fin details: enter your fin's brand, size and carbon (yes/no) – then filter the rankings by brand, carbon or max size, and show them as columns.
📱 Community & mobile
- Guest quick-entry: scan the Spot-TV QR code and join today's ranking without an account.
- Mobile layout optimised: sections stack on phones, no more zoom-in when tapping a field, and ranking tables are shown slimmed (date without the time, km/h only – swipe for more).
- Spot photo gallery shows up to 6 photos in a tidy grid.
- Installable web app (PWA), new icons and many small fixes.
Earlier (Beta 0.7x)
2026
- Community speed rankings (2 s, 30 s, longest run, total distance) with a fair trust score and a performance index.
- Spot guide with descriptions, photo galleries and a 3-day wind forecast; Spot-TV live leaderboard; groups & community feed.
- Multi-language user guide and dedicated, search-friendly spot pages.
